Additional Resources
NIOSH
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NIOSH developed the NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards, which is an excellent resource for quick and condensed information about hazardous substances and the risks of potential exposure. NIOSH also published the Occupational Health Guidelines for Chemical Hazards, which summarizes information on permissible exposure limits, chemical and physical properties, and health hazards. These guidelines address appropriate practices for dealing with asbestos and other federally regulated substances.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is an agency of the U.S. federal government. The EPA was created for the purpose of protecting human health and the environment. The EPA does not regulate the use of asbestos, but it is a resource that provides additional information concerning the effects of asbestos exposure. The EPA can be a helpful resource when trying to assess potential health impacts on both humans and the environment.
