Units of Concentration
Cal/OSHA regulates how much asbestos a worker can be exposed to and for how long. The time-weighted average for asbestos exposure is 0.1 fiber/cc, and the excursion level is 1.0 fiber/cc. We will discuss a few of these terms later in the course, but it is important to know these levels so you can ensure that you are not being exposed to potentially harmful asbestos. A qualified person should always be present to test the air for harmful levels of asbestos, but your safety is ultimately your responsibility. Being familiar with proper safety procedures for any workplace is essential.
