Additional Monitoring
When circumstances change or incidents occur in a workplace, additional monitoring for benzene is required.
The employer must institute exposure monitoring when there has been a change in the workplace that might result in new or additional exposure to benzene, or when the employer has any reason to suspect a change that may result in new or additional exposures. These changes may be in production, processes, control equipment, personnel, or work practices.
Whenever spills, leaks, ruptures, or other breakdowns occur that may lead to employee exposure, the employer should use sampling methods after the cleanup or repair. The objective of this sampling is to monitor and ensure that exposures have returned to the level that existed before the incident.
