Information & Training
At the time when employees are initially assigned to a work area where benzene is present, employers must provide employees with information and training. If exposures are higher than the action level, employees should receive information and training at least annually thereafter.
The training program should be in accordance with the employee information and training requirements of section 5194 on hazard communication, and should include specific information on benzene for each category of information prescribed by that section.
Employers must also do the following:
- Provide employees with an explanation of the contents of section 5218, including the appendices, and tell them where they can find the regulation
- Describe the medical surveillance program and explain the medical surveillance guidelines contained in Appendix C
