Physician's Written Reports

For each exam performed to comply with this regulation, the employer must obtain and provide the employee with a copy of the examining physician's written report within 15 days of the examination.

The written report from the physician should include the following information:

  • The occupationally pertinent results of the medical examination and tests
  • The physician's opinion concerning whether the employee has any medical conditions that would place the employee's health at a greater than normal risk of material impairment from exposure to benzene
  • The physician's recommended limitations upon the employee's exposure to benzene
  • A statement that the employee has been informed by the physician of the results of the medical examination

The physician's written report to the employer should not reveal specific records, findings, and diagnoses that have no bearing on the employee's ability to work in a workplace that contains benzene.
