High Risk Jobs

Workers in yarn, thread, and fabric mills are at the highest risk for byssinosis. The following work scenarios present particular risk:

• Yarn manufacturing
• Slashing and weaving operations
• Waste houses for textile operations
• Preparation of washed cotton from the opening of the cotton until the cotton is wetted
• Cottonseed processing or cottonseed waste processing

Workers and employers in these areas must implement safety precautions to avoid exposing themselves and others to harmful dust.
