High Risk Jobs
Workers in yarn, thread, and fabric mills are at the highest risk for byssinosis. The following work scenarios present particular risk:
- Yarn manufacturing
- Slashing and weaving operations
- Waste houses for textile operations
- Preparation of washed cotton from the opening of the cotton until the cotton is wetted
- Cottonseed processing or cottonseed waste processing
Workers and employers in these areas must implement safety precautions to avoid exposing themselves and others to harmful dust.
