Regulated Area
Employers must designate areas where lead exposure is possible, and keep all other areas as free as possible from contamination. Access to these areas is restricted to authorized employees, all of whom are required to wear proper protective clothing and equipment while in the regulated area. These areas must also be marked with a warning sign that includes the following information:
- DANGER
- LEAD WORK AREA
- MAY DAMAGE FERTILITY OR THE UNBORN CHILD
- CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
- DO NOT EAT, DRINK OR SMOKE IN THIS AREA
These signs must be properly lit and visible, and must be kept free of any defacement or graffiti that could confuse or contradict the message of the sign.
