Best Practices

Any time an employee leaves the work area it is important that all rules regarding hygiene and clothing are strictly adhered to. When removing PPE, workers should always be careful to do so without allowing cadmium to become airborne through shaking or blowing on the equipment. Employers should provide separate areas for the storage of street clothes and protective equipment. If the employee has been exposed to cadmium levels above the PEL, the employee should take a shower and wash his or her face and hands. These cleansing methods are necessary to remove any cadmium residue before employees leave the workplace to ensure that they do not carry cadmium dust out of the regulated area.
