Competent Person

A competent person works on the behalf of the employer to ensure that all guidelines are being followed. In particular, a competent person has the following responsibilities:

  • Identifying potential and existing cadmium hazards
  • Making corrective measures to eliminate or control hazards
  • Determining the presence of cadmium in the workplace
  • Creating regulated areas limited to authorized employees
  • Assuring that authorized employees follow all standards for personal protective equipment and are trained in methods of exposure control when entering an area with an air cadmium level above the PEL
  • Ensuring that the appropriate hygiene facilities are provided, and that employees are trained in proper use of those facilities
  • Verifying that all engineering controls required by Cal/OSHA standards are in place
