High Risk Jobs
Those at the highest risk of exposure to cadmium are construction workers, shipyard employees, and workers in other general industries that include, but are not limited to, the following work:
- Demolition or salvage where cadmium is present
- Industries where workers are using cadmium containing paints or working on surfaces that were painted with cadmium containing paints
- Welding, cutting, grinding, or burning any metal plated with cadmium or a cadmium alloy
- Installation of cadmium containing products
- Any position that comes into contact with cadmium containing products including transportation, containment, storage, or disposal
- Anyone that works in electroplating or metal machining
- Workers in the recycling industry
- Anyone who works in landfill operations
People who enjoy the hobbies of jewelry making and repair, as well as stained glass design, are also at a higher risk of cadmium exposure.
