Pregnant or Nursing Women, Babies, & Children
It is important that pregnant or nursing women take precautions when exposed to cadmium. Though there is little documentation about the effect of cadmium on a developing fetus or an infant, in animal testing researchers have found that cadmium does affect the young. In those studies, researchers found that the young animals had lower body weights, that their skeletal development was affected, and that both their behavior and learning were negatively impacted.
Cadmium can be passed through breast milk from the mother to the infant. Children are more susceptible to the risks of cadmium exposure and show the same gastrointestinal and respiratory symptoms as adults.
