Symptoms of Short-term Exposure

If a person is exposed to high enough levels of cadmium over a short period of time (such as a few hours to a few days), cadmium poisoning is still possible. This exposure may result in lung damage, fragile bones, stomach irritation, kidney damage, and death.

It may be difficult to attribute these symptoms to cadmium poisoning since they could easily be mistaken for something else. However, workers should always mention the symptoms to their employers, and seek medical attention from a physician knowledgeable about the exposure effects of cadmium.
