Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

OSHA is part of the United States Department of Labor. Congress created OSHA to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance.

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

The NFPA publishes fire and building safety standards, including the National Electrical Code.

There are many standards associated with the safe operation of industrial equipment, and companies may use the assistance of organizations like UL to help them obtain necessary certifications for country-specific compliance.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

ANSI offers up-to-date resources on national and international standards activities.

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH)

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), commonly known as Cal/OSHA, protects and improves the health and safety of working men and women in California and the safety of passengers riding on elevators, amusement rides, and tramways through activities such as:

  • Setting and enforcing standards
  • Providing outreach, education, and assistance
  • Issuing permits, licenses, certifications, registrations, and approvals
