Fundamentals

Cal/OSHA requirements address industrial trucks and industrial tow tractors, including haulage vehicles and earthmoving equipment, in GISO 3650 and GISO 3664.

It is important to fully understand the parts of industrial equipment. Being familiar with the fundamentals of the equipment will contribute to the safe operation and use of the equipment. Industrial equipment consists of several parts, such as the following:

  • Mast and carriage
  • Attachments
  • Nameplate
  • Instruments
  • Battery
  • Overhead guard
  • Tires

In general, industrial equipment is powered through either a combustible engine or by a battery. In the future, hydrogen fuel cells, which have no emissions, or a hybrid system, which relies on both fuel cells and a battery, may grow in popularity as power sources for industrial equipment.
