California Code of Regulations: The codification of the general and permanent rules and regulations announced in the California Regulatory Notice Register by California state agencies.
Carboy tilter: A large glass bottle protected by basketwork or a wooden box, used especially for holding corrosive liquids.
Dockboard: A tool that provides loading and unloading capabilities in heavy-duty applications and bridges any gaps that can be a safety concern, offering ease when using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
Earthmoving equipment: Bulldozers, excavators, and other heavy equipment used to move large amounts of dirt.
Free lift: The distance the forks on a forklift can raise up before the mast is extended.
General Industry Safety Order: Sometimes abbreviated as GISO, General Industry Safety Orders provide industry-wide guidelines for reducing occupational injuries or diseases.
Haulage vehicle: Any vehicle other than railroad cars or locomotives used to transport the product of a pit. In addition to self-propelled trucks, the term "haulage vehicle" includes tractors, trailers, and all other similar equipment used for such transportation.
Lift truck: A powered industrial truck used to lift and move materials short distances away.
Lower explosive limit (LEL): The lowest concentration of a gas or a vapor in air that is capable of producing a flash of fire in the presence of an ignition source.
Lumen: The SI unit of luminous flux, equal to the amount of light emitted per second in a unit solid angle of one square radian from a uniform source of one candela.
Mast: The mast is the vertical assembly that does the work of raising, lowering, and tilting the load.
Nameplate: Each operator is required to be aware of the truck specifications on the nameplate and what they mean. If there is a special attachment, it must be listed on the nameplate.
Overhead guard: An overhead guard is designed to protect the operator from falling objects.
Powered Industrial Truck: A type of industrial machinery commonly called forklifts or lift trucks that are used in many industries, primarily to move materials. They can also be used to raise, lower, or remove large objects or a number of smaller objects on pallets or in boxes, crates, or other containers.
Rigger: A worker who prepares heavy equipment or loads of material for lifting.
Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS): A system or structure intended to protect equipment operators and motorists from injuries caused by vehicle overturns or rollovers.
Tractor: An engineering vehicle specifically designed to deliver a high-tractive effort or torque at slow speeds, for the purpose of hauling a trailer or machinery used in agriculture or construction.
