Refresher Training
Employers should provide refresher training whenever an operator demonstrates a deficiency in the safe operation of the truck. Training can consist of a combination of formal instruction, including the following:
- Lecture
- Discussion
- Interactive computer learning
- Videos
Refresher training should also include practical training, such as:
- Demonstrations performed by the trainer
- Practical exercises performed by the trainee
Operators in the process of being trained can only operate a powered industrial truck under the direct supervision of someone with the knowledge, training, and experience to train operators and evaluate their competence and when doing so does not endanger the trainee or other employees.
Refresher training should include an evaluation of the operator's performance in the workplace.
If an operator has previously received training in a specific topic, additional training in that topic is not required if the operator has been evaluated and found competent to operate the truck safely.
