Responsibilities - Employees
Employees must not make modifications and additions to industrial equipment that affect the capacity and safe operation of the equipment without the manufacturer's prior written approval.
In cases where there is approval, employees must update plates, tags, or decals for changes affecting features such as:
- Capacity
- Operation
- Maintenance instruction
If no response or a negative response is received from the manufacturer, written approval of the modification or addition from a qualified registered professional engineer is acceptable. A qualified registered professional engineer must perform a safety analysis and address any safety or structural issues contained in the manufacturer's negative response before granting approval. The forklift nameplates must be changed accordingly.
If the truck is equipped with front-end attachments that are not factory installed, the user must request that the truck be marked to identify these attachments and show the truck's approximate weight - including the installed attachment - when it is at maximum elevation with its load laterally centered.
Employees should adhere to training protocols, which include procedures such as:
- How to follow best safety practices
- When and how to use PPE
- How to use first aid
- What to do in the event of an emergency in the workplace
Personnel Providers
Personnel providers are responsible for informing the potential employee about risks associated with working for a client, such as job opportunities that are especially focused on the use of dangerous industrial equipment.
