Human Healthcare & Related Facilities That Are Subject to the ATD Standards
The first part of the ATD standard (Title 8 CCR Section 5199) is referred to as the ATD and ATD-Laboratory standards. The ATD and ATD-Laboratory standards apply specifically to human healthcare facilities and operations in which workers may come in contact with aerosol transmissible disease pathogens, as follows:
- Healthcare facilities, services, and operations
- Laboratory facilities, services, and operations
- Public safety organizations
- Emergency response operations
- Public health and service organizations
- Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) service providers that maintain, renovate, or repair equipment and building areas
It is important to note that the range of public health and service organizations that are subject to the ATD standards include organizations that, at first glance, might not be thought of as a healthcare facility. For example, homeless shelters, drug treatment centers, and communicable disease screening programs all must comply with the ATD standard.
