Evaluation Checklist
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) developed a checklist to help facilities evaluate their respiratory protection programs. (A link for this checklist can be found in the additional resources section at the end of this training course.) The first question on the checklist asks if the healthcare employer has a written policy that acknowledges the employer's responsibility to provide a safe and healthful workplace. The second question asks if a suitably trained individual has been designated as the respiratory protection program administrator (RPA) responsible for the development and implementation of the respiratory protection program. The next block of 10 questions asks for verification that the written respiratory protection program includes specific elements. Most of the remaining questions on the checklist concern the use and care of respirators.
Not only is this checklist an effective way to ensure that your facility is adequately protecting its workers, but the checklist also provides a summary view of what your respiratory protection program should look like.
