Zoonotic Aerosol Transmissible Diseases
Some of the diseases covered by the ATD standard are zoonotic aerosol transmissible diseases. Zoonotic ATDs are a type of ATD in which disease organisms are spread between humans and animals or insects. Some examples of illnesses caused by zoonotic ATDs include the following:
- Ebola virus
- Herpes B virus
- Salmonellosis
- Anthrax
- Zika virus
These pathogens may be transmitted to workers from disease pathogens that are suspended in the air (that is, the aerosol) in the laboratory building.
