Program Evaluation

Employers are responsible for making sure their respiratory protection program remains effective. This includes ensuring that each factor of the plan is being properly implemented. It also includes consulting with employees to get their views on the program's effectiveness and to identify any problems. At the very least, employers must ask employees about the following:

• How well the respirators fit
• Whether the current respirators interfere with work performance
• Whether the current respirators are appropriate for the hazards to which employees are exposed
• Whether the employees are using and maintaining the respirators properly

To ensure worker safety, employers must correct any problems that are identified during this assessment.
