Employer Responsibilities

It is up to your employer to make sure that everyone receives sexual harassment training and conducts themselves in a way that creates a welcoming work environment for all. This includes the obvious: the employer not engaging in conduct that can be perceived as quid pro quo or hostile environment harassment. It also includes the employer or supervisor taking the correct steps once he or she is aware of workplace sexual harassment. Inaction can create an even more hostile work environment and can be costly for employers in the long run, should there be a lawsuit. In these cases, the courts often find employers and supervisors liable due to inaction.

Remember that employer responsibility extends to contract workers, applicants, all employees, third-party vendors, and even customers.
