Communicating Investigation Results
Once the investigation is over, communicate these results to the complainant and the harasser. Follow these guidelines when doing so:
- Explain the conclusion.
- Explain why you reached this conclusion. Include specific pieces of key evidence.
- Discuss any complaints that the investigation could not resolve. Ask the employee to provide any other information he or she may have.
- In the cases where you found harassment, communicate to the harasser the actions you are taking.
- Do not provide details of the disciplinary action to the complainant. (At times, this may be obvious; for example, when the employee is terminated. However, you need not provide details.)
- Review your retaliation policy and remind the complainant what to do in the case of retaliation.
- Provide the contact information for whom the employee may contact about the investigation.
