Examples of Appropriate Corrective Actions
A complaint claims an employee touched an employee inappropriately in a hallway. You immediately investigate. You are aware there are security cameras in the hallway. You immediately place the employee on leave while you review the tapes. You determine that the employee did indeed act inappropriately. You interview both parties following the procedures outlined in this course. You refer to your company's policies on sexual harassment and determine that the employee violated the policies in place. The policy clearly states that any inappropriate touching will result in termination. The employee received proper training on these policies, and your records prove so. You consult with the legal team; they approve your decision.
You meet with the employee after hours (when the complainant is not there) and you fire the employee. This is swiftly correcting the action and taking immediate steps to ensure it does not occur again.
For remedial measures, you meet with the complainant, explain what has happened, and ask if he or she needs counseling to deal with this traumatic event. You ask if there is anything else the employee needs. You document this conversation and ask the employee to sign.
You notify your team that this employee has been let go for violating company policies. You do not provide specifics. You state that these details are confidential.
You follow up with the employee on occasion to make sure he or she is okay and is not suffering any form of retaliation.
