Flagging for Aerial Application

Flagging refers to the process of marking off an area that is going to be or has been sprayed by pesticides. Both the flagger and the pesticide applicator in the plane must be careful during aerial applications to avoid being contaminated by the pesticide. Take the following safety precautions when flagging an area for an aerial application:

  • Wear all the PPE that is recommended on the pesticide label.
  • Make sure no people, pets, or livestock are in the treatment area or in nearby areas where the pesticides could drift.
  • Move out of the way before the aircraft flies overhead so that pesticides will not get directly on you; move upwind so that any breeze would blow the pesticide away from you
