Handler Trainer Qualifications
Handlers and workers must be trained once at least every five years, counting from the end of the month in which the previous training was completed.
The individual who conducts handler training must meet one of the following requirements:
- Currently be a certified applicator of restricted-use pesticides, in any category of certification
- Currently be designated by the appropriate state, federal, or tribal agency as a trainer of certified pesticide applicators or pesticide handlers
- Have completed a pesticide safety "train-the-trainer" program approved by the appropriate state, federal, or tribal agency
The pesticide safety training materials must be either WPS training materials developed by the EPA or equivalent training material. Employers must be able to verify that they provided workers with the required basic safety information.
