Cleaning & Maintaining PPE

Pesticide-contaminated PPE must be kept separate from other clothing and laundry. If PPE will be reused, employers must ensure that it is cleaned before each day of reuse according to the instructions from the PPE manufacturer, unless the pesticide label specifies different requirements. If there are no such instructions or requirements, wash the PPE thoroughly in detergent and hot water.

Clean PPE should be thoroughly dried before it is stored. Store clean PPE separately from personal clothing and away from pesticide-contaminated areas.

Employers are responsible for informing anyone who cleans or launders PPE of the following:

  • That the PPE may be contaminated with pesticides
  • The potentially harmful effects of pesticides
  • How to protect themselves when handling contaminated PPE
  • How to correctly clean PPE
