Requirements for Used Oil Collection Centers

Used oil collection centers must comply with the RCRA regulations for used oil. The collection centers must do all of the following:

Only accept used oils generated by do-it-yourselfers.
Limit the volume of each incoming shipment of used oil to 55 gallons.
Test the oil to ensure that it has not been mixed with hazardous waste.
Document proof that the oil does not contain contaminants.
Ensure that the oil is properly stored in containers or tanks.
Ensure that the oil is sent to a permitted used oil recycling facility.
Ship the oil using transporters that are permitted to haul used oil.
Obtain all registration, licensing, permits, and recognition as required by federal, state, county, and municipal government regulations for managing used oil.
