Other Materials Excluded from RCRA Regulations
Other materials are excluded from the RCRA regulations because the EPA excludes them from its definition of hazardous waste. A few examples of these materials are as follows:
- Household hazardous waste (such as rat poison, house paint, solvents, pesticides, and fertilizer)
- Agricultural waste (such as animal manure, slaughterhouse remains, and fertilizer run-off)
- Spent chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are used as refrigerants and in the manufacture of aerosol sprays and foams
- Used oil filters
Many other materials are excluded, as well. These types of exclusions to hazardous waste regulations may be found in 40 CFR 261.4.
