Container Storage Areas - "Dry" Wastes
The requirements for containers that hold dry waste that does not contain free liquids are simpler than the requirements for containers that do contain free liquids. This is due to the lower potential for "dry" wastes to spread when a spill or leak occurs. Such containers must be stored in an area that is sloped or otherwise designed and operated to remove liquid from rain or other precipitation away from the storage area.
The storage requirements are more stringent for dioxin-bearing wastes, which are acutely toxic to human health and the environment. The storage area for containers of these dry dioxin wastes must have a secondary containment system designed and operated in compliance with 40 CFR 264.175 (b).
