Tracking & Recordkeeping Requirements

All generators of hazardous waste, and all facilities that treat, store, and dispose of hazardous wastes that are subject to the LDR program requirements must meet notification, certification, analysis, and recordkeeping requirements. These requirements are outlined in 40 CFR Part 268.7, and are designed to ensure that the wastes are properly managed from cradle to grave.

The LDR program requires that all handlers include a written notification with the initial shipment of each type of regulated hazardous waste to another facility. This notification includes information such as the waste code, the hazardous elements present in the waste, and data from the required waste analysis. If there is any change in either the type of waste being shipped, or a change in where the waste is being shipped, the handler must provide an additional notification with the updated information.

The LDR program also includes specific recordkeeping requirements that apply to waste generators, treatment facilities, and disposal facilities. The LDR program also includes special reporting requirements for hazardous debris and contaminated soil.
