Other Oils
Some used oils do not qualify as used oil in the context of the RCRA regulations. For example, the following oils and liquids do not qualify as used oil:
- Products such as antifreeze and kerosene
- Vegetable and animal oils, even when they are used as a lubricant
- Petroleum distillates that are used as solvents
Keep in mind that while these oils do not meet the RCRA definition of used oil, they may be subject to RCRA's hazardous waste regulations (refer to 40 CFR 261). It is the responsibility of the generator to be informed about the handling, recycling, and disposal methods for hazardous oils of all types.
