Ignitability Characteristic
A material is considered "ignitable" if it meets any of the following criteria:
- It is a liquid material with a flash point of 140 degrees Fahrenheit or less. The flash point is the lowest temperature at which a fluid will ignite given an ignition source.
- It is a non-liquid material that can cause fire through friction, absorption of moisture, or spontaneous chemical changes under normal temperatures and pressures.
For example, ethanol has a flash point of only 61.9 degrees Fahrenheit, and is therefore considered hazardous. It is also on the U list.
