K-Listed Wastes
K-listed wastes come from a variety of specific sectors of manufacturing and industry. K-listed wastes are divided into thirteen categories based upon the industry in which the source was generated. The industries that generate K-listed wastes are as follows:
- Wood preservation
- Organic chemicals manufacturing
- Pesticides manufacturing
- Petroleum refining
- Veterinary pharmaceuticals manufacturing
- Inorganic pigment manufacturing
- Inorganic chemicals manufacturing
- Explosives manufacturing
- Iron and steel production
- Primary aluminum production
- Secondary lead processing
- Ink formulation
- Coking (processing of coal to produce coke)
A few examples of K-listed wastes include the following:
- Wastewater treatment sludge from the production of zinc yellow pigments
- Wastewater treatment sludges generated in the production of creosote
- Filter solids from the filtration of hexachlorocyclopentadiene in the production of chlordane (a compound used in pesticides)
- Tar storage tank residues from coal tar refining
