Labeling Hazardous Waste for Transport
Before transporting hazardous waste or offering hazardous waste for transportation off-site, an SQG or LQG must package the waste in accordance with the applicable Department of Transportation regulations on packaging under 49 CFR parts 173, 178, and 179. Before transporting or offering hazardous waste for transportation off-site, an SQG or LQG must label each package and place a placard on the load of hazardous material in accordance with the applicable Department of Transportation regulations on hazardous materials under 49 CFR 172.
Prior to transporting or offering hazardous waste for transportation off-site to a permitted treatment, storage, and disposal facility, SQG and LQG generators must mark their containers with the applicable RCRA waste codes or use a nationally recognized electronic system, such as a barcoding system, that performs the same function. Refer to 40 CFR 262.32 for full marking requirements.
