DOT refers to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

EPA identifications number, or EPA ID, refers to an identification number issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that must be obtained by generators (and other handlers) of hazardous waste.

Manifest refers to paperwork that identifies and tracks hazardous waste that is being transported from its point of generation to its final destination.

Manifest system refers to a tracking mechanism using a manifest for each shipment of hazardous waste to ensure that it reaches its intended designation.

Placard refers to the durable weatherproof sign that identifies the hazard class of the waste being transported.

Transfer facility refers to a location used for temporary storage of a shipment during the course of transportation.

TSDF is the acronym for "treatment, storage, and disposal facility." TSDFs handle hazardous waste.
