Transfer Facilities

A transfer facility is a location that is used to temporarily store wastes while they are being moved to their final destination. Transfer facilities are locations where a shipment might be kept during normal transportation. Examples of such facilities are as follows:

  • Loading docks
  • Parking areas
  • Storage areas
  • Carrier terminals

Shipments of manifested hazardous wastes in DOT-specified containers may remain at such a facility for ten days or less without requiring a storage permit.
