Documentation & Compliance for Interim Status Facilities

Data and supporting documents are required that estimate the amount of uncontrolled emissions of particulate matter, metals (see 40 CFR 266.106), and hydrogen chloride and chlorine that will result from burning the hazardous waste (the content that is required for these reports is different for different facilities - for more information, refer to 40 CFR 266.103).

The compliance requirements are complex and specific to each facility, depending upon the materials being processed, tier levels, methods of processing, and other factors. The RCRA regulations are covered in 40 CFR 266, which clearly establishes the guidelines for environmentally safe hazardous waste combustion. This section of the code includes an appendix that is designed to help facilities achieve compliance, with dozens of tables and detailed explanations of procedures.
