Standards for Combustion for Interim Status Facilities
Owners and operators of boilers and industrial furnaces who operate under interim status permits face different requirements than do the owners and operators of permitted facilities. The term "Interim status" holder refers to owners and operators whose BIF units were operating or being constructed on or before August 21, 1991. The interim status applies until an RCRA permit is issued, or until the owner or operator meets all of the requirements for closing the facility. For information about additional qualifications and exemptions, refer to 40 CFR 266.103.
To comply with the interim status standards, owners and operators must provide a certificate of pre-compliance that includes the following information:
General information about the facility:
- EPA facility ID number
- Facility name, contact person, telephone number, and address
- Description of the BIF units used to burn hazardous waste
- A to-scale blueprint of the entire facility that includes locations of combustion devices
- Description of the air pollution control system for each unit that burns hazardous waste
