Attachment 2, Steps 3 & 4

Step 3 - Determine Proper Shipping Name (PSN): Table A4.1 lists Proper Shipping Names for hazardous materials. The table also lists the hazard class, UN Identification number, Packaging Group (PG), special provisions, and packaging paragraph(s).

You must determine whether an item is "forbidden"; if so, it cannot be shipped via military airlift, along with passenger eligibility.

You must also determine if an item is considered a "Hazardous Substance" according to Table A4.3.

Step 4 - Determine Requirement for Chapter 3 and Non-Chapter 3 Mission (Channel): For non-Chapter 3 (Channel) airlifts (not related to tactical, contingency, or emergency airlifts), refer to Chapter 1 and 2 for general requirements that cover all hazardous materials shipments by military aircraft. Chapter 2 covers deviations, waivers, and special requirements. For chapter 3 operations, refer to chapter 3 for exceptions.
