Chemically Contaminated Cargo

3.7 covers chemically contaminated cargo. Chemically contaminated cargo must be evaluated to determine the appropriate hazard classification so that it may be packaged, labeled, marked, documented and shipped accordingly. If this cannot be done than these items will not be accepted for shipment. Such items must be decontaminated to the greatest extent possible in the theater where they became contaminated.

Reusable wood and fiberboard containers must be destroyed in the theater in which they became contaminated.

Decontaminate reusable shipping containers such as drums, and so on (other than wood and fiberboard) before reusing.

Double-wrapped palletized cargo that is susceptible to contamination exposure. If exposed to contamination, remove the outside wrap; the inner wrap should protect the cargo. Destroy the outside wrap in the theater where it became contaminated. Package according to A13.20.
