Labeling Hazardous Waste
Label hazardous waste with the appropriate hazard label, along with a properly completed hazardous waste label.
For items shipped under the PSNs "Dangerous Goods in Machinery" or "Dangerous Goods in Apparatus", apply package orientation labels (This Way Up) to opposite vertical sides when required, so that liquid hazardous materials remain properly oriented.
If the machinery or apparatus contains a magnetized material, apply a Class 9 hazard label and a "Magnetized Material" label.
A label is not required for domestic shipments when the use is exempted by a DOT special permit. For international shipments, the correct label(s) must be applied.
Packages containing materials that are not regulated do not need hazard labels applied.
All labels required by Attachment 15 for individual packages must be applied directly to any stretch or shrink wrapping used or a marking board (A14.3.12). Orientation labels are not necessary if the stretch or shrink wrap prevents the incorrect loading of a package or container.
