Special Cargo Requirements for SAAM
Attachment 24 discusses Special Cargo Requirements for Special Assignment Airlift Missions (SAAMs). It covers requirements for extremely hazardous materials that require technical escorts and other extensive protective measures.
The provisions of the attachment apply to shipments of the following materials:
- Material listed in Table A4.1 as Special Provision 1 (SP1). SP1 materials include but are not limited to: Class 6.1 PG I hazard zone A and Class 2.3 hazard zone A toxic material.
- Class 1 compatibility group K.
- Fissile Class III radioactive materials.
- Class 7, Category III-Yellow material with a Transport Index greater than 10.
- Any other material determined to need technical escorts for safety concerns.
A24.2 lists transportation requirements for the hazardous material identified in A24.1. If you are responsible for shipping these types of materials, please refer to the appropriate section in this attachment for transportation requirements.
A24.3 describes technical escort requirements, while A24.4 covers shipping requirements for infectious substances (etiologic agents).
A24.5 discusses aircrew jettison criteria for the indicated hazardous materials.
