Driver (CDL) - Accessibility
Carriers and drivers of motor vehicles transporting hazardous materials must ensure that the shipping papers are readily available and accessible to authorities in the event of an accident or inspection. Hazardous materials shipping papers must remain clearly distinguishable from all other shipping papers. You can tab the HAZMAT shipping papers, place them on top of the stack of papers, or keep them separate, so long as they are readily accessible.
- Driver at vehicle controls: The shipping papers must be within your immediate reach, even while you are restrained by a lap belt. The shipping papers must be readily visible to a person entering the driver's compartment or in a holder mounted on the inside of a driver's door.
- Driver not at vehicle controls: Shipping papers must be in a holder mounted to the inside of the driver's door or on the driver's seat.
