Driver (CDL) - Motor Vehicles Carrying Passengers for Hire

In addition to the regulations in part 170-189 of the HMR, certain conditions and limitations apply for motor vehicles carrying passengers for hire and property.

Class 1 - Explosive Materials or other hazardous materials are not permissible on passenger carrying vehicles or within their space except for small arms ammunition, emergency shipment of drugs, chemicals and hospital supplies, and the accompanying munitions of war for the armed forces of the U.S. However, hazardous materials may be transported on passenger carrying vehicles if:

• The package does not exceed 45 kg (99 lbs) and the total weight of all other dangerous articles does not exceed 225 kg (496 lbs).
• This exception does not apply to nontoxic, nonflammable refrigerants.
• No other means of transportation is available.
