Driver (CDL) - Retention

A paper copy or an electronic image of all shipping papers must be retained by the shipper for two years from the date it was presented to the initial carrier. The carrier must retain shipping papers for one year from the date the shipping paper was received. When hazardous waste is transported, both the shipper and carrier must retain a copy of the associated shipping paper for three years after it has been accepted for shipment by the initial carrier. Copies of shipping papers must be readily accessible to the shipper or carrier if requested by an authorized Federal, State, or local agency.
