Hazard Class 3
Class 3 - Flammable and combustible liquids consists of liquids or liquid mixtures that give off flammable vapors. Classification of Class 3 materials is determined by the flash point. Flash point is the minimum temperature at which a liquid gives off vapor within a test vessel in sufficient concentration to form an ignitable mixture with air near the surface of the liquid.
Flammable liquids have a flash point of 60° C (141° F) or below, or are any material in a liquid phase with a flash point at or above 37.8° C (100° F).
Combustible liquids are liquids that do not meet the definition of any other hazard class and have a flash point above 60.5° C (141° F) and below 93° C (200° F). The combustible liquid classification is only acceptable for domestic shipments by rail or highway.
Common examples include gasoline, alcohol, acetone, and perfume.
Class 3 materials are covered in §173.120.
