HMT - Column 5
Column 5, PG, specifies one or more packing groups assigned to the hazardous material. There are three packing group designations:
- Packing Group I (PGI) indicates a great danger
- Packing Group II (PGII) indicates a medium danger
- Packing Group III (PGIII) indicates a minor danger
There are no packing groups designated for materials in Class 2, Class 7, Division 6.2, and ORM-D materials, and column 5 is left blank. If a material is assigned to more than one packing group, the shipper must determine the correct packing group for the hazardous material. This may be determined based on criteria such as flammability, reactivity, toxicity, and corrosiveness.
