Placard Specifications
The diamond HAZMAT placards are instantly recognizable around the world. Their unique shape, color, and text, as well as the images displayed within the placard borders, are designed to distinguish them from advertisements, logos, and other markings. They must be visible and properly displayed following these guidelines:
- Visible from the direction it faces
- Placed on the front of the vehicle
- Securely attached
- Located away from devices, such as ladders, pipes, and doors
- Located away from road grime
- Located away from other markings
- Able to be read upright (text displayed horizontally)
- Maintained in the proper condition
Placards must also be strong and durable enough to withstand 30 days of exposure to the elements. They must measure at least 250 mm x 250 mm (9.84 in).
