Training Requirements
Each HAZMAT employer must:
- Ensure that each HAZMAT employee is trained and tested
- Certify that each HAZMAT employee has been trained and tested
- Develop and retain records of current training for each HAZMAT employee
Once initial training has been completed, the HAZMAT employee must go through recurrent training at least once every three years. Air carrier employees must be retrained at least every two years. It is the responsibility of a HAZMAT employer to ensure its HAZMAT employees are thoroughly instructed in the current provisions of the HMR. HAZMAT training received from a previous employer or other source may be used provided that a current training record is obtained.
